We have collected a number of testimonials from guests and members:
"I really do enjoy our Friday elevenses and lunch, I volunteer in the kitchen and it's a real buzz talking to people, finding out what they want - although you get to know what they want after a few weeks - and serving them, all whilst having a laugh working with others in the kitchen. Hearing from members who have enjoyed the food and their time there makes it all very worthwhile."
"I have been going since January this year. I love it – it’s the best thing I have done for ages. I’ve made friends and we socialise both at the Hub and elsewhere. I recommend it! Because of the Hub I have been invited to join a social club for snooker and a drink – its been so good for me to socialise in another club. I have made even more friends! I am hoping that this may lead to even more opportunities….”
Personal Stories
"Steven is 87. He lost his wife a number of years ago. He has degenerating vision and is registered blind. He has family in Lancaster, but they are working professionals, so he spends a lot of time on his own. He is an intelligent, kind and charming man. Steven was referred to LMH by a neighbour and we were able to arrange regular transport from his home to The Cornerstone. At his first Elevenses, Steven was frowning and needed a lot of support. He was reluctant to talk to anyone else. As the weeks passed, he transformed into someone who was chatting with other men before he took his coat off. He has told me that he now loves going to the Hub on a Friday morning as he enjoys the company of men, many of whom are of different ages and backgrounds. He says he can “talk for England” and LMH provides people to do that with, even if they are playing backgammon or other board games. He is one of our success stories – but not the only one."
